AYURVEDIC OBESITY CARE

Structured Weight Reduction, Rooted in Ayurveda

Obesity is a metabolic condition, not a moral failing. We treat it that way — with real physiology, classical detoxification and a plan that respects the body rather than fighting it.

THE CLINICAL PICTURE

Understanding Obesity

Obesity is a condition where the body disproportionately accumulates excess fat due to the absorption of more calories than are burned. Body mass index (BMI) is a standard metric to determine whether a person’s body weight is normal, low, or high for their height. A person with a BMI greater than or equal to 25 is overweight; a person with a BMI greater than or equal to 30 is obese.

Symptoms of Obesity

  • Increased sweating
  • Increased body odour
  • Increased flabbiness of the body
  • Liking for a sedentary life
  • Heaviness of the chest region
  • Steady increase in body weight and girth
  • Increased growth of hair and nails
  • Liking for cold food and environment
  • Unusual thirst
  • Sweet taste in the mouth

Complications Arising From Obesity

Raised BMI is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases, including:

  • Cardiovascular diseases, mainly heart disease and stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Musculoskeletal disorders, such as osteoarthritis
  • Certain cancers, including endometrial, breast, ovarian, and prostate

Diagnostic Workup

We study each client’s health history to understand the possible causes of obesity, and conduct thorough physical examinations, blood tests, and body measurements to determine the best combination of treatments and recommendations before any programme begins.

If your goal is general weight management rather than a clinical obesity diagnosis, see our Weight Management programme.

THE FIVE LAYERS

What Your Programme Includes

Classical detoxification does the heavy lifting. Digestive fire, diet and movement hold the result.

Udvartana Massage

Herbal-powder friction massage that breaks down subcutaneous fat, tones the skin and stimulates lymphatic drainage.

Vamana Therapy

Where indicated — clears excess Kapha at the source, the doshic driver of stubborn weight gain. Specifically indicated for clinically diagnosed obesity.

Agni-Deepana

Herbal support that rekindles digestive fire — the pivotal factor in whether food converts to nourishment or to Ama (toxic residue).

Dietary Plan

A dosha-specific eating plan with warm, light foods, right spices and meal timings that support the reset.

Movement & Yoga

A curated sequence that complements the therapy phase and eases into a sustainable lifelong pattern.

CLINICAL CHECK

Is This Right For You

Ayurvedic Obesity Care is the right starting point if any of this sounds familiar.

A BMI of 30 or Above

Confirmed or suspected — the specific clinical threshold that defines obesity, distinct from general weight-management goals.

Sweating, Body Odour, Chest Heaviness

Increased sweating, body odour, or a heaviness in the chest region — genuine, distinguishing indicators of this condition.

Sedentary Preference and Unusual Thirst

A liking for a sedentary life, cold food, or unusual thirst alongside steady weight and girth increase — a Kapha-dominant presentation, not just wanting to lose a few kilos.

An Existing Comorbidity

An existing diagnosis of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or osteoarthritis alongside your weight — the complications that arise from raised BMI.

Your Doctor Has Flagged Your BMI

A doctor has flagged your BMI as a health risk, not just a cosmetic concern — the clinical framing this programme is built around.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Six-Week Difference

Crash diets fail because they treat the calorie count and ignore the metabolism. Our patients see energy return in week one, digestion normalise in weeks two and three, and visible fat reduction from week four onwards — and it tends to hold.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

When We Ask You to Wait

Ayurveda is gentle, but it is still medicine. Your doctor screens for the following at consultation, before any programme is scheduled.

Pregnancy

Currently pregnant — Vamana and other Panchakarma therapies are not used during pregnancy.

Uncontrolled Diabetes or Cardiac Disease

Uncontrolled diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or recent cardiac events — requires physician clearance before Panchakarma.

Severe Joint Disease

Where mobility for the movement and yoga component is limited, the programme is adjusted accordingly.

Weight Medication or Bariatric Surgery

Actively on weight-related medication or considering bariatric surgery — coordinate timing with your treating physician.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

Obesity Treatment Cost in Bangalore

What the programme costs depends on the diagnostic workup required, the specific therapies prescribed (including whether Vamana is indicated), and programme duration. Your clinic confirms the exact price at consultation, before any programme is booked.

Obesity — FAQs

Obesity means having too much body fat — specifically, a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above. It happens when the body stores more energy than it uses, though the causes are often more complex than diet alone.
Eating more than the body needs, reduced physical activity, stress, sleep issues, and certain underlying health conditions like thyroid imbalance can all contribute to obesity.
A structured programme combining Panchakarma detoxification (including Vamana where indicated), Udvartana massage, herbs, diet counselling, and lifestyle guidance based on your specific dosha imbalance and clinical picture.
Yes — stress can change hunger patterns, disrupt sleep, and slow down routine activity, all of which contribute to weight gain over time.
Certain herbs, detox therapies, and structured food routines can help reduce cravings and support better eating habits as part of a broader programme.
No — Ayurveda typically recommends balanced, dosha-appropriate meals rather than harsh restriction or crash dieting.
Walking helps the body burn energy and is a useful part of a broader plan, but your doctor will guide activity levels based on your specific health profile and any comorbidities.
Yes — Udvartana, a herbal-powder friction massage, improves circulation, breaks down subcutaneous fat, and helps the body feel lighter as part of a structured programme.
If your BMI is 30 or above, or if your weight is affecting your daily life or contributing to conditions like joint pain, diabetes risk, or infertility, it’s worth a clinical consultation rather than trying to manage it alone.
Water supports digestion and can help avoid overeating driven by thirst mistaken for hunger, though it isn’t a treatment on its own.
Doctors use BMI to assess this — a BMI of 30 or above is generally classified as obese, while 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. Your Shathayu doctor will confirm this with a proper physical exam.
Yes — Ayurveda addresses body type, digestion (Agni), and daily habits together, aiming at the underlying Kapha-dominant imbalance rather than only the visible weight.
Yes — many people with obesity find it harder to sleep well or feel rested in the morning, which can itself worsen weight gain in a difficult cycle.
No — hormones, genetics, lifestyle, certain medications, and thyroid function can all play a role independent of how much someone eats.
Everyone’s body responds differently. The focus of our programme is steady, safe, sustainable progress rather than rapid loss that tends to rebound.
Yes — raised BMI is a recognised risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders like osteoarthritis, and certain cancers including endometrial, breast, ovarian, and prostate.
Yes — insufficient sleep affects hunger hormones and daily energy levels, both of which can contribute to weight gain over time.
Yes — share your current medications with your doctor so your Ayurvedic programme can be planned safely alongside them.
Ayurveda works at the level of digestion, metabolism, and gut health, which may help reduce fat stored specifically around the abdomen as part of a broader programme.
Yes — thyroid imbalance can slow metabolism and directly affect weight, which is why a proper diagnostic workup is part of this programme rather than treating weight in isolation.
